The Architecture Building & Planning Library is situated on the fourth floor within the Architecture Building & Planning Building campus map which is just off Swanston Street and centrally located within the city of Melbourne (Melway 571 K10, building 133).

The library enriches the research activities of and supports the teaching of the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning; and is a main resource for the Bachelor of Environments.

The Library collects in the areas of architectural history, design and theory; historic preservation; CADD: urban planning and design; landscape architecture; facilities management; project management property; transport; and environmental planning. The collection is strong in works of individual architects and architectural firms, building types, and local history. The collection resources of books, serials and microforms are available for public use as well as for the faculty and students. Facilities available within the library include computer terminals for internet access (for staff and students only), student study spaces, photocopying and scanning.

Other libraries within the University of Melbourne have collections that are designed to complement and enhance the University’s intellectual content. In particular, the collections at Maps and East Asian libraries provide additional specialist resources essential for Architecture Building and Planning research. The East Asian Library has some of the best collections of Chinese and Japanese Architecture outside of Asia, including the areas of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design and city planning, and is a member of Asian Libraries of Melbourne which has a shared collection policy for Architectural resources.

In addition to serving the University’s knowledge base, the library has strong links with the wider community. Many practising Architects, independent scholars and historical society members utilise the library’s collection on a daily basis.  Members of the public are welcome to use the library resources and individual library memberships are available upon purchase to borrow books from the collection.

Members of the general public are welcome to come into the library and use the resources available there.
