The Meanjin Archive
Searching Help
The Meanjin Archive mainly consists of files of correspondence between founding editor, CB Christesen, and some 1400 individuals, many of whom were contributors to the journal. At the moment the Meanjin Archive Database may only be searched by the names of individuals. You can either select a name from the drop-down list or enter a name yourself. The difference between the two search modes is that selecting a name from the drop-down list will produce a short record about the correspondence file for that individual only.
However, entering a name in the second search box will produce short records for all of the files where correspondence by that individual is located. Files typically contain correspondence, manuscripts and, sometimes, press cuttings. Clicking on 'Details' in the short record will bring up the full record.
The Meanjin Archive has been extensively cross-indexed and the section of the full record titled 'Notes/Other correspondence files in which <filename> is mentioned' directs researchers to specific correspondence in other files where they will find a significant reference to that person.
Truncation can be used. For example entering C. Stead will deliver the record for New Zealand poet C.K. Stead. Entering C* Stead will deliver records for both C.K. Stead and Christina Stead.
