Mining
UMA holds the major Australian collection of records relating to the mining industry. Australian mining was dominated in the first half of the twentieth century by the so-called 'Collins House' group of companies whose comprehensive records are amongst those held. In addition to company records, large holdings of the personal papers of miners, engineers and company directors add to the richness of the collections. These are complemented by the records of mining unions. The following are representative examples:
- Australian Mining and Smelting 1910-84
- Broken Hill Associated Smelters 1889-1957
- Broken Hill South Limited 1876-1980
- Comalco Limited 1957-93
- CRA Limited and subsidiaries 1911-94
- Mary Kathleen Uranium Limited 1954-87
- Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company 1892-1966
