August - end of September 2005

Kazi Hassan's exhibition entitled 'when I find myself' mainly illustrates diverse emotional perspectives originated from the personal experiences of an international student from a developing country studying in one of the most cosmopolitan and tolerant cities of the world. They crystallize the emotions that were ambiguous in the bitter realities of Kazi Mahboob Hassan's country of birth, Bangladesh . The exhibition hopes to share the collective perception of our eternal quest to seek identity in a rapidly changing society and our collective struggle to pursue a dream.

Kazi Mahboob Hassan is undertaking a Master of Public Health in the School of Population Health as part of the AusAID program. He has received an Academic Activity Grant from the University of Melbourne's School of Graduate Studies to mount this exhibition.

Idea

Try to emphasize that a person is responsible for his/her own actions and free to choose his/her development and destiny

&

Through self-awareness one becomes authentic, the more awareness the more freedom

Environment/Space

The booths were created to allow for only one person to experience at a time. Therefore creating a more intimate and individual space where your thoughts are not interrupted or influenced by whom or what is around you. A space for a very personal moment.

Also to ask the question, who are you in the terms of Private and Public situations?

Introspection

Who are you in the world? What are your values and beliefs?

One's capacity for self-analysis and awareness.

Fogging over of reality, not wanting to or unable to see through the fog.

What is your projected persona

What faces/personalities do you put on/project? What are you trying to be or project as being to others? What roles do you play to be accepted? What disguises do you choose to wear?

Are you trapped within your own frame of reference

Do you believe that your view of yourself and the world is the only view? Are you trapped within your own views and perceptions and cannot see outside of these? Do you believe you can control everything that is going to happen to you if you stay within your own frame of reference? Are you not taking on board others thoughts, ideas and experiences as being valid and true as well as your own?

?

Is this the real you? Are you compromising your true self?
