The Artists
Bruno Leti
I have said before that making books for me is a human act. There is a parallel here with making paintings or making prints. But there is the added interest in the printed word and its meaning - which adds to the image, or can even be independent of the image. By now there is a history of poets’ books as there is of artists’ books (some people wish to describe them, perhaps, as fine press books). In my case I draw on my art practice and add in my collaborations, poets, writers, binders, papermakers, typographers and of course publishers. As an artist/painter, I wish to make poetry a visible, even visual art. For this the book has remained the principal vehicle - the material book, like the material poem, is still active in the age of virtuality.

Outside of lyric poetry, a collaboration is the heart of creativity and a deadline the real mother of muses. A wordsmith and a painter are both capable of rejoicing in communication. It's nice playing doubles on the grass court.
