The Artists
Angela Cavalieri
My recent work explores the art of writing and storytelling in a visual form, the combination of text and image have originated from literary, religious and historical sources. INRI is the Latin inscription that appears on many depictions of the crucifixion. INRI examines the individual letters of the Italian word crocifissione (crucifixion), which eventually appears as you fold out the page.

I didn’t really believe in the recent Commonwealth Games, but I do believe in a commonwealth of books. I know once we put books in stacks, on shelves, or even together in a room, that ideas pass between them - deeply, silently. I also believe that a single person has never been responsible for a book - even though the world demands a NAME; there always has to be a community of ideas and people for a book of true value to hatch.

George Matoulas
Most of George’s books are collaborative projects where he marries his wood blocks or etchings and aquatint prints with other artists’ images and other writers’ text. Alternatively, he binds the work of other image makers. Either way, a creative interchange occurs with a resultant object that is multilayered both aesthetically and textually. As a binder, George involves himself in every part of the book-making process, with the one exception of actually making his own paper. Each book takes about 12 to 18 months to produce and a typical print-run is between one and five copies.
