The Artists
Derham Groves
Since 1997 I have been producing a series of limited edition artists’ books about Sherlock Holmes, which I print letterpress and bind myself. These little books are usually illustrated with my own linocuts, or found images (children’s rubber stamps or printing plates purchased on ebay or borrowed from a fellow printer), or printed impressions of everyday objects (heels, tyres, etc). They also usually incorporate items of ephemera (visiting cards, insoles, balloons, advertisements, etc). Furthermore, they often purport to have been written/compiled by the great detective himself, such as the one on display, Bugs and Hidden Cameras (in His Last Bow Holmes pretends to be a spy named Altamont), the 13th title in this ongoing series.
