INTRODUCTION

The ‘East Square Pavilion’ is situated on the city
wall of Korea. It is
|
|
|
named ‘east’ as it sits on the east side of the city
gate. Once standing
|
|
|
was also a west pavilion, however now all that remains
is the east
|
|
|
pavilion which has in time gone through severe
reconstruction.
|
|
|
|
The purpose of a pavilion is to act as a fine place for
visitors to pause
|
|
|
and view. Being
relatively small in size, this pavilion has a square plan
|
|
with a pyramidal roof.
However unlike many other pavilions, this pavilion
|
|
has an inner space with lattice doors and windows in
replacement of
|
|
|
walls. So in
plan form, it would look as a square within a square
|
|
