- Agricola
(AGRICultural OnLine Access)
a bibliographic database of citations to the agricultural
literature created by the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators.
Production of these records in electronic form began in 1970, but the
database covers materials in all formats, including printed works
from
the 15th century.
- Australian
Architecture Database - ARCH (Informit)
a bibliographic database that indexes
and abstracts journal articles, exhibition reviews, obituaries, editorials,
conference proceedings,
news items, project articles and award features held by the Stanton
Library, North Sydney Council from 1980 to the present. Subject coverage
includes architects and landscape architecture.
- Australian
Heritage Bibliography - AHB (Informit)
was previously called HERA. It is produced by
the Australian Heritage Commission and indexes and abstracts articles from published and unpublished material on
Australia's natural and cultural environment. Subject coverage includes national parks; endangered species; coasts; forests; wetlands;
rivers; geological features; wilderness areas; world heritage sites; aboriginal rock art sites,
ceremonial grounds and sacred sites; important historical and archaeological
sites, and historic buildings and structures; and historic towns
and precincts.
- Australian Plant name Index (APNI)
is a database of the name and publication
reference for every higher plant taxon in Australia. All Australian plant names that have ever been used are present, including
many of those no longer in current use.
- Avery
Index to Architectural Periodicals
indexes international scholarly and popular periodical literature, publications
of professional associations, US state and regional periodicals, and the major serial publications on architecture and design of Europe, Asia, Latin America,
and Australia. Coverage is from the 1930s (with selective coverage dating back to the 1860s). Journals indexed include:
Landscape Australia and Landscape Architecture.

- Biosis
Previews (ISI) indexes nearly 5,500 life science journals and 1,500 items from international meetings, review articles,
books, and unique additional references from Biological Abstracts and Biological Abstracts/RRM. Subject areas indexed include agriculture and botany.
- Botanical Glossaries
The Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research has compiled a listing of glossaries for botanical
terms which are available on the internet.

- CAB Abstracts (ISI) provides Web-based access to bibliographic information
compiled by CAB International (CABI). This international database covers agricultural and applied life sciences literature. All records have
abstracts and some provide access to the full-text. Some of the subjects covered include: natural resources; environmental issues; plant breeding;
horticulture; soil science and land / water management. It also indexes the Acta Horticulturae series.
- Common names of Australian Plants
A database provided by The
Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research and Australian National Botanic Gardens searchable by common names.
- Compendex Web
is an interdisciplinary engineering database and is useful for subjects such as irrigation. Compendex contains over 9 million records and references
over 5,000 international engineering sources including journal, conference, and trade publications.
Coverage is from 1969 to present and the database is updated weekly.
- Current
Contents Connect (ISI)
is a multidisciplinary current awareness Web resource, providing access to
complete bibliographic information of over 7,000 of the world's leading scholarly
journals and more than 2,000 books.

- ELIXIR
(Informit)
NRE's Electronic LIbrary eXchange for Information Resources (ELIXIR),
produced by the Library and Information Services Unit of the Victorian
Department of Natural Resources and Environment, is a bibliographic
database that indexes and abstracts material held in departmental libraries
and regional collections from 1990 to the present. Most of the books
and reports listed on ELIXIR can be borrowed through Inter-library
loan.
Reference material, rare books and material being used constantly by
departmental staff will not be lent. Libraries may be visited during
normal business hours. The staff at the libraries should be advised
prior to the visit.
- Environmental
Sciences and Pollution Management (CSA)
This multidisciplinary database, provides comprehensive coverage of
the environmental sciences. Abstracts and citations are drawn from
over 5980 serials including scientific journals, conference proceedings,
reports, monographs, books and government publications.

includes major Australian newspapers and around 8000 publications,
including local and international newspapers, news wires and journal sources
- First Search (OCLC)
Includes: ArticleFirst an index of articles from the contents pages of journals
and WorldCat a catalog of books and other materials in libraries worldwide.
- Flowering Plant Gateway vers. 2.02
provides access to sets of web links on the Family or taxa of vascular plants
using the three major systems of flowering plant classification (the
Cronquist system, the Takhtajan system and the Thorne system) as the
initial search point.

- Informit Indexes Informit offers a wide range of databases and full content publications that
deliver the majority of Australasian scholarly research to the education, research and business sectors.
- The International Plant Names Index The International Plant Names Index (IPNI) is a database of the names
and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants.
IPNI is the product of a collaboration between The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The Harvard University Herbaria, and the Australian National Herbarium.

is a joint effort of Michigan State University
Extension and the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association, it can
be purchased on CD-ROM or searched via the web (hint: scroll to the

to access this option). The database contains information
about trees, shrubs, vines, ground covers, perennials, annuals, house
plants, insects, diseases, cultural information and other
topics. It is updated continuously with the next major review due

to Australia's plant health. A Commonwealth Government
initiative, developed and built by Museum Victoria's Online Publishing

with support provided by DAFF (Department of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Forestry) and PHA (Plant Health Australia), a non-profit
public company.

- Purdue Landscape and Nursery Thesaurus
Topics include: computer software, propagation, pruning, fertilzation, irrigation
and water quality.
- Plant
breeders rights database
A database of plant varieties registered under the Plant Breeder's Rights Act
1994. Varieties protected by PBR may only be produced for sale, sold,
imported, exported or conditioned with the authority of the owner.
- The Plant Press - Dictionary of Common Names
The 1st edition of this dictionary was compiled and edited for Royal Horticultural
Society Plant Finder. This on-line version is compiled by John Oppenlander and with more than 30,000
pairs, this is one of the largest lists in the world. The entries
translate between common name and latin name. Many of the entries
are synonyms or simply alternative spellings or minor variations of
a name, often leading to several suggestions
for any given enquiry.
- Plants database
was developed by the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural
Resources Conservation Service. It the provides scientific and
common names,
plant symbols,
distributional
information, crop growth parameters, wetland indicator status, duration,
nativity, and other attributes for vascular and
nonvascular plants. Geographically, the data pertain primarily to the
United States and its territories.

subject area coverage includes Agricultural and Biological Sciences

- Sepasal
A database about useful "wild" and semi-domesticated plants of tropical
and subtropical drylands, developed and maintained at the Royal Botanic
Gardens, Kew.
- STREAMLINE (Informit) Subject coverage includes: the sustainable management of land, vegetation and
water resources, including
urban
water and wastewater and irrigation systems. Source documents include
Australian and international journal articles, published and unpublished
reports, research in progress, books, monograph chapters, and conference
papers; but the information must be written by an Australian or be
about Australia. Note: STREAMLINE (and ABOA) is now available as part
of the new database Agriculture and Natural Resources Index (ANR-Index).
- Synergy A searchable interface for 792 full-text journals published by Blackwell's.
It is particularly strong in the sciences and has good coverage in the subject
areas of Ecology and Entomology. It includes journals such as: Weed
Research, Weed biology & management,
Plant pathology, Plant Breeding, The Plant Journal.

of Science (ISI) is a critical citation database for all researchers
in the sciences, social sciences and arts & humanities.
A powerful feature of Web of Science is citation tracking. Use Web
of Science to: uncover directions in which research is progressing;
track the work of a noted authority; verify the accuracy of a cited
reference that has been listed in a bibliography; analyses the impact
of published research or to keep up to date with what has been published
in your field.
- What's
Its Name?
This is a highly recommended, concise database of plant names and name
changes for Australia. The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is the
source of What’s Its Name? and provides nomenclatural information
on plant names used in Australia. It is a collaborative project of
the Australian Biological Resources Study, Australian National Botanic
Gardens
and the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research.

the Plant Breeder's Rights Act 1994.
- Plant Cultivars This site displays descriptions and illustrations of ornamental plant cultivars
available in Australia. A combined project of
the University of Melbourne - Burnley College, and the National
Herbarium of Victoria, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne
with assistance from many people (see Project Background). The
descriptions are the result of projects undertaken by TAFE (Technical
and Further
Education)
