Who can borrow?
Anyone with a current University of Melbourne membership card, CAVAL card or an Approved
Borrower's Card may borrow from the Library and must produce their card each time they borrow.
Please contact the library if you have not been issued with a card.

Library catalogue
There are seven computer terminals in the library for searching the University of Melbourne library catalogue.
Look for the UniM Dookie location code to identify items held at Dookie. Library Catalogue


Books

Loans
Items are lent for 28 days.  High demand items may be restricted to 7 day or 2 day loans.
7 day loans are identified with blue tape on the spine. 
2 day loans are identified with yellow tape on the spine.

Loans for all MSLE Dookie staff and students can be obtained from any of the campuses within the
University.  This service is free. 
Photocopies can also be obtained from within the University.
This service is known as the Inter-Campus Document Delivery service

How to Borrow
You must present your University of Melbourne card when you borrow items.  It is also
needed if you want to renew your loans.
Take your card and the items to be borrowed to the Loans Desk for checkout.
Library materials are security tagged and must be cleared at the Loans Desk before they
are taken from the library.


Holds

If you want to borrow a Dookie item which is out on loan, you can place your own hold
via the Library catalogue.  Ask library staff for assistance if necessary.

Items from other University of Melbourne branches must be requested via the
Inter-Campus Document Delivery Service
.
A daily courier system operates so items generally only take a matter of days to arrive.


Renewals

How
You can do your own renewals over the Internet via the Library catalogue using the
View Your Own Circulation Record  option.

Loans may also be renewed by telephoning the Dookie Library on 5833 9224.
Please check carefully which items have been renewed, and their due dates.

When
Renew 28 day loans either on or before (within 7 days of ) the due date.
Renew 7 days loans either on or one day before the due date.
(Please note: some 7 day loans from other branch libraries cannot be renewed.)

Restrictions
Renewals will not be permitted if:
   - you have any overdue items or outstanding fines totalling $15.00 or more
   - an item is in high demand
   - an item has a hold for another patron
   - item/s have been renewed the maximum number of times (four).


Returns

Loans are to be returned through the slot at the loans desk. After hours returns can be put through the chute beside the library entrance.


Fines and Penalties

Fines apply to library materials returned late.
Once an item becomes overdue or your fines total $15.00 borrowing privileges are suspended.
Please note that Library fines accrued by MSLE Dookie staff and students are payable
by cash or cheque only, directly to the Dookie Library.

Email notification
Library notices will be sent to your university email account.  Please check your email regularly.


Journals
Journals (also known as periodicals or serials) are not available for loan and must be used within the library.


Reserve Material
Heavily used items are held on Reserve behind the loans desk.  They are for use in the library on two hour loan.
Most lecture and tutorial material is posted on WebRaft or the LMS. A small collection of material supplied by lecturers is kept in folders at the Loans desk.  A list of folders is kept on the loans counter.  Folders are not to be removed from the library.


Audiovisual material

Videos
The library video collection is situated in the main area of the library. The normal loan period is 28 days.  Any high use videos limited to 7 or 2 day loans are identified with blue (7 day) or yellow (2 day) tape.

CD-ROMS
The Library has a collection of CD-ROMs of which most can be borrowed.  They are listed on the Library catalogue and are usually available for 28 day loan, please ask at the Loans Desk for access.

DVDs
The Library has a collection of DVDs of which most can be borrowed.  They are listed on the Library catalogue and are usually available for 28 day loan, please ask at the Loans Desk for access.

Kits
Multimedia kits are shelved at the end of the Video collection.  The normal loan period is 28 days.

Facilities
The library has an Audiovisual viewing room with access to a video and DVD player and television. Bookings are not normally required. Ask at the Loans desk for access.



Borrowing items from outside of the University (Interlibrary loans)

Postgraduate students and staff members can request books and journal articles from other libraries when they are not held by University of Melbourne Libraries, via the web link InterLibrary Loans.

Honours students may print request forms: interlibrary loan article request form | interlibrary loan book request form and submit completed forms to the Dookie Campus Library.



CAVAL
A CAVAL card enables you to borrow direct from other participating university and college
libraries in Victoria.  There is no fee.  Please ask Library staff for an application form.

CAVAL Borrowers from other institutions.
Intending borrowers need to bring their home institution ID and a current CAVAL
card issued by their home library. Once registered borrowing is permitted throughout the
University of Melbourne library network.

Bonus +

    Bonus+ is a catalogue of materials held in participating academic libraries.  It can be searched
    via the Library catalogue
