Borrowing from Other Libraries

Victorian students
Victorian students can register as a member of the CAVAL Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme by applying to their campus library for a CAVAL card.  This scheme allows registered card holders to borrow from a number of tertiary academic libraries throughout Victoria.  A CAVAL Registration/Enrolment Form is included in the Student Administration Forms booklet you received on enrolment, or with your study package.).

Students outside Victoria
The National Borrowing Scheme allows all students of AVCC member universities to borrow in person from any other interstate university in Australia.  The scheme is a cooperative arrangement between member universities.  All students of the University of Melbourne are eligible to register with any university library that participates in the scheme.

You can only borrow in person at the libraries with which you register.

Applications are made in person to the library you wish to borrow from.  There is no need to contact your own university.  Check the National Borrowing Scheme web page of the library you wish to join for details about registration and borrowing conditions.

Students will be asked to present a photo ID as well as proof of current enrolment.  This could be your enrolment advice form or other proof from your university.

Renewing Loans
Loan renewals can also be performed electronically via the online catalogue.
Students can request an extension of the loan period on any materials they have borrowed by
phoning or emailing Dookie Library
