General Book Collection
The Library holds an excellent collection of books and videos in dairy
and food technology and related disciplines with particular emphasis
on dairy food processing, food microbiology, food safety, and the preservation
of foods.

On each Catalogue entry there is a location symbol, for example:
UniM Gilbert Chandler - LFR Gilbert Chandler Library
UniM Biomed - Brownless Medical Library
UniM Dookie - LFR Dookie Library
There is also a Dewey or shelf number, which locates the item in a
numerical sequence close to other books on the same topic, for example:
UniM Gilbert Chandler 637.3 = books relating to cheese
Other locations may include Parkville branch libraries or the CARM
Centre - a storage place for older material.

Journal Collection
Details of journal titles held by the Library are included in the catalogue.

Current issues received are displayed for four weeks.
Journals are shelved alphabetically by title.
For information on the availability of particular journal titles, contact
library staff.
Many journals are now available on-line through electronic
resources catalogue.
To locate journals held at other academic libraries, look at Serials

Reference/Reserve Collection
Material in this collection includes subject encyclopedias, handbooks,
dictionaries and yearbooks, statistical information and Australian Standards.
It also includes high use items and important texts which are on Reserve.
Material in this collection is NOT FOR LOAN.

Audio Visual Collection
This collection is primarily VHS videotapes shelved by Dewey Decimal
Classification number in the A/V room in the Library.
A video player and monitor is available for viewing or the material
may be borrowed.
The loan period for videos is 14 days.

Electronic Books and Journals
The library catalogue inlcudes both print and electronic titles. There
are two ways to access electronic resources.
To access electronic books and journals from the web version of the
library catalogue first search the catalogue,
find the entry that indicates the location is 'UniM INTERNET resource'
and click on 'connect'.
Alternatively you can access electronic books and journals from the
electronic resources
menu. This provides access to on-line and CD-Rom resources, full text
electronic journals, useful web sites and University of Melbourne exam
papers as well as catalogues.
Access to some electronic resources is restricted to members of the
University of Melbourne.
