Facing Percy Grainger
An exhibition held at the National
Library of Australia, Canberra
in association with the Grainger
Museum from 6 July to 15 October 2006.
Facing Percy Grainger was a major exhibition that explored
the life, artistic world and musical achievements of this unique
Australian. Forever associated, perhaps to his detriment, with the
tuneful 'Country Gardens', Percy Grainger (1882-1961) was a celebrated
pianist and composer, a pioneering folklore collector, musical inventor,
social commentator and archivist.
This colourful and thought-provoking exhibition was the result of a collaboration
between the National Library of Australia and the Grainger Museum at the
University of Melbourne. Over 200 items drawn from the Grainger Museum
formed the core of the exhibition, with additional material sourced from the
collections at the National Library of Australia and the National Gallery of
Victoria.
