Journals

The journals collection includes both print and online journals. Print journals are arranged alphabetically and are given the location UniM Maths P on the library catalogue. New issues of print journals received by the library are put on display twice weekly. The easiest way to check whether the Library holds a particular print journal title is to search for the title in the catalogue.
To check if the library holds a particular electronic journal, use the Find information page.

Books

Books in the Mathematical Sciences Library are arranged on the shelves according to their Dewey Decimal Classification number. To locate a particular book, it is necessary to find the call number by consulting the Library Catalogue. UniM Maths is the location given in the library catalogue for these. Some books have supplementary software which is held separately at the Loans Counter and is available on request. New books are placed on display near the Reference Collection. A monthly list of new book titles received is available.

The Reference Collection includes dictionaries, thesaurus, encyclopediaes, indexes etc. Items in the Reference Collection have a location of UniM Maths REF on the library catalogue. Reference material is not available for loan and must be used within the library or photocopied.

The Mathematical Tables Collection is a collection of books of mathematical tables and some handbooks. Items in this collection have the llocation symbol UniM Maths Tables, and are available for seven day loan. The Mathematical Tables Collection is located near the Reference Collection.

Reserve

Items on the Reserve shelf are usually items required for courses, and they have the location UniM Maths reserve on the Library Catalogue. Books from the library collection are shelved by their usual call numbers, but books and lecture notes etc supplied by lecturers are identified by their course code. Search the Reserve Lists on the Library catalogue by course code or name, or by lecturer to see what is available for your course, and request the items at the loans desk. Most items on the reserve desk are available for 2 hour loan between 9am and 3:15pm, and overnight loan after 3:15pm. Overnight loans must be returned by 10am the following day. Note that significant fines apply for late return of reserve material.

Teaching staff who wish to make books, notes or other reading materials available on the reserve shelf may download a request form (Word 6.0 format), and forward it to the Mathematical Sciences Library in person, by mail or fax (8344 4710), or as an email attachment.
