Searching the Library catalogue using keywords
- Select "Catalogue" / "Library Catalogue: books, print journals and more..."
- Select "KEYWORD"
- Type in distinctive words or phrases that would appear in the title, subject or author fields.
- Following your keywords, type "and" followed by one of the Media Format Terms from the table below. (All Media Format Terms are in italics, e.g. videorecording.)
- Click on "Submit Search" to view your results.
For example:
- macbeth and videorecording
- kelly and sound recording
- human settlements and chart
- english language and test
- french language and kit
- clocks and realia
- reading and computer file
- (music or percussion) and (realia or kit)
Limiting the search
- Select "Catalogue" / "Library Catalogue: books, print journals and more..."
- Select one of the menu options and enter your title, author or keywords
- Either click on "Submit Search", or if searching by keyword, go straight to step 5.
- Click on the green "Limit this search" button from the top menu bar
- Go to "Material type" and click on the drop-down arrow on the adjacent menu bar to choose from the options. The options are detailed below.
- Click on "Submit Search" once again and view your results.

Off-air recordings
Under Part VA of the Australian Copyright Act of 1968 the University of Melbourne is allowed to record videos, music and radio programmes for educational purposes and archive this in various formats for future use of University of Melbourne staff and students.
Off-air recordings that have been catalogued can be found on the library catalogue. These items are located according to their call number and format within the video, DVD or CD-collections. Some of these resources are also available online via streaming.
Recordings that were streamed and made available through Readings Online can be searched with Digitool.
ACMI
The Australian Centre for the Moving Image holds Australia's largest public film, video and new media lending library.
Unimelb, as ACMI Member can access their Lending Collections for staff or students of the University.
National Film & Sound Archive
The National Film and Sound Archive is the national audiovisual archive. They collect, store, preserve and make available screen and sound material relevant to Australia's culture.

Libraries Australia
Libraries Australia lets you discover what's in Australian libraries. You can find it, borrow it, copy it or buy it.
A password can be requested by University of Melbourne staff and students. This will enable these users to use more options than available via the "simple search" screen of the Libraries Australia Catalogue.
