Biomedical Library Journals Relocation

The Brownless Biomedical Library will close on the 26 June 2009 for redevelopment, to re-open in late January 2010. The project includes the relocation of the MDHS Student Centre along with the creation of a dedicated space for RHD students and collaborative learning spaces for undergraduate students.

The Brownless Biomedical Library will continue to house core print collections into the future. However, during the construction period, access to books and journals will be restricted. High-use and frequently-used books will be temporarily re-located to the Baillieu Library and Old Quad library. Further details about access and relocations will be posted on the Biomedical library website.

In order to accommodate the new facilities, it will be necessary to move part of the journal collection into permanent off-site storage. Communication with relevant departments about these plans commenced in December 2008.

Journals to be transferred to off-site storage fall into two categories:

The journals being placed in permanent off-site store will eventually be housed in the University of Melbourne store at Bundoora once construction is completed, estimated by the end of 2010. In the interim period, the journals will be in closed storage. Articles requested from the journals not available electronically will be sourced through interlibrary loan.

The University Library wishes to ensure that the collection continues to meet the research needs of the academic community. Therefore we now seek final feedback from researchers and teachers by Monday June 1st, 2009. We also request that supervisors of RHD students circulate this information to their students. Feedback can be sent to Lynne Horwood, Biomedical Librarian lynnemh@unimelb.edu.au
