  • The Australian Digital Theses Project
    This is a distributed database of digital versions of theses produced by postgraduate research students at the participating institutions. Participants include the University of Melbourne, Australian National University, University of Queensland and others.Search the database by keywords or browse by partner institutions to locate theses of interest.

  • ProQuest Digital Dissertations (restricted - University of Melbourne only)
    (Free access to the most recent two years of citations and abstracts.) Titles published since 1997 are available in PDF digital format and have 24 page previews available. This is a popular multi-disciplinary index of virtually all doctoral dissertations accepted by U.S. institutions since 1861. Also a selection of theses from Canadian, British, and European institutions, together with a few from Australia and New Zealand. Beginning with 1980, citations include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Selected masters theses are covered after 1962, with abstracts available after 1988.
  • Register of Postgraduate Music Dissertations, 1995-, from the Musicological Society of Australia.
    "This register lists titles of music theses in progress or completed since 1995 for doctoral, masters, and graduate diploma awards at universities in Australia and New Zealand."
  • Theses - Great Britain and Ireland 1970- : Index to theses with abstracts accepted for higher degrees by the universities of Great Britain and Ireland and the council for National Academic Awards.
  • MyOAI - the Open Archives Initiative is supported by 3 major American bodies, the Digital Library Federation, the Coalition for Networked Information, and from National Science Foundation . The mission of OAI is to `enhance access to e-print archives as a means of increasing the availability of scholarly communication`. Major insitutions worldwide have made their e-prints available through this service provider. OAI is also a great source for theses collections.
  • OAIster is digital library resource provided by University of Michigan. Over 139 institutions worldwide are part of the project. The collection includes theses and there is some overlap with ProQuest Digital Dissertations.
  • DMS : Dissertationsmeldestelle der Gesellschaft für Musikforschung. Recherche par divers critères accessible dans la rubrique Benutzerabfrage. Contenu : Répertoire des thèses en cours (Allemagne, Autriche, Suisse) élaboré par la Gesellschaft für Musikforschung (Kassel) et hébergé par l'Université de Münster.
  • SUDOC (Système universitaire de documentation). Géré par l'Agence bibliographique de l'Enseignement Supérieur (ABES). Choose Sudoc - Catalogue, then click on "search options" in top R.H. corner to limit to "dissertation". The Sudoc catalog lets you search bibliographic information on all types of documents held by French academic libraries, as well as other higher educational establishments, including theses from 1972.
  • Libraries worldwide. University library catalogues will generally list higher degree theses written by students in their own institutions. Connect to library websites and catalogues all over the world from the Libweb site hosted by the University of California, Berkeley. Search by keyword for a library, or browse libraries by region.
  • WorldCat - Access via the Library catalogue. (restricted - University of Melbourne only)
    WorldCat is a catalogue of books and web resources, including theses, held in libraries worldwide. It is an excellent source for tracking down obscure or hard to find titles.
