Richard Mills. Batavia (2001)
One of the highlights of the celebrations of the Centenary of Federation was the premiere of Richard Mills’ opera Batavia. The composer’s autograph full and vocal scores are among many donations he has made to the Music Library. While Batavia is an extravagant work, a sort of post-modern take on grand opera, Mills eschews computer technology and writes his scores in the unassuming medium of pencil on paper.
