Printed Scores
François Couperin. Troisième Livre De Pièces De Clavecin (1722)
Music and its printed representation are rarely as well matched as in the harpsichord works of François Couperin “Le Grand.” Elegance, precision and exquisitely controlled decoration are evident to the eye as well as the ear. Such publications as this were produced by engraving, largely freehand, on copperplate. Later music engraving became cheaper and faster through the use of pewter-like alloys and the use of punches for most symbols.
