You have access to one of the leading music research collections in Australia. Ensure you know how to get to library resources and other essential course materials. An introductory tutorial to a range of topics.

* Where are the performance scores for Saxophone, Clarinet, Piano, Violin, quartets, etc.?

Aimed at all new users of the University Library, these sessions provide quick introductions to these essential tools. Learn to:
· use the web catalogue to manage your borrowing, renew and reserve books
· find material on your reading and research lists,
· locate relevant online information sources for your subject,
· find printed and electronic books and journal articles
· get access to these resources from home
· learn how to locate and borrow material not available in the University Library

An introduction to the range of materials available in the library and some key indexes and databases. Learn how to locate research sources on the University and Library websites and how to access key databases and catalogues in preparation for searching the music therapy literature.

A demonstration of some effective library and research techniques for locating material for assignments and essays, including the Researching Music website. Tips on how to make the most of course reading lists, reserve desk materials, the library catalogue and music indexes. A select overview of the range of music literature available and consideration of assignment structure, footnotes and bibliography.

- Postgraduate students - Introduction to Lenton Parr Library, Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts
This is an essential session for new postgraduate students at the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts. Music students from the Faculty of Music are also welcome to attend. Learn how to get the most out of the VCA library. Even if you have been a student at the VCA previous to enrolling as a postgraduate student. This session covers: Searching effectively for books, journals, music scores, sound recordings, audiovisual items etc using the UoM catalogue; brief introduction to SuperSearch for all electronic resources; access your borrower record for renewing books and storing searches; place requests for books on loan and available at other University of Melbourne libraries; accessing other university libraries in Melbourne and interstate; and Interlibrary Loans.

This session will look at the key features of SuperSearch, the Library's gateway to electronic resources, in a hands-on computer lab. It will also cover how you can set up your own literature searching space, bookmark journals and databases, and customise database sets.

This introductory workshop (1.5 hours) provides opportunity for hands-on activity using Endnote X, with a focus on the visual and performing arts. The workshop covers the main features of EndNote: creating a library, adding references, downloading references from the library catalogue, inserting references from your EndNote library into a word document, and formatting a bibliography in a research paper.

- Top Up Endnote X for Music Researchers - for WIN/PC.
This workshop (1.5 hours) provides opportunity for hands-on activity using Endnote X for WIN, with a focus on music. The workshop builds on the Introduction to Endnote X for Music Researchers for WIN/PC class offered on 1 May. More advanced features will be added to your skill base including downloading references from a database, customising references and preferences, importing references from electronic databases and catalogues using Import Filters and Connection Files, inserting URLS and images. Note: Before applying for this course, you must have completed Introduction to Endnote X for Music Researchers - for Win/PC.
