The following sessions will help you enhance your research skills. Current sessions are listed on the Information Skills Classes website where you can check times, venue and make a booking if required.
New to the Music Library?
- Orientation for VCA Honours Students

Showcase of some of the collections and facilities in the library that support this subject. Also, you will learn to :
- search effectively for books, journals, music scores, sound recordings, audiovisual items, etc.
- use SuperSearch for electronic resources;
- access your borrower record to renew borrowed materials and store searches;

Aimed at all new users of the University Library, these sessions provide quick introductions to these essential tools. Learn to:
· use the web catalogue to manage your borrowing, renew and reserve books
· find material on your reading and research lists,
· locate relevant online information sources for your subject,
· find printed and electronic books and journal articles
· get access to these resources from home
· learn how to locate and borrow material not available in the University Library
Many sessions during February, March & April. Bookings required at a time convenient to you.
2nd Semester
Introduction to Lenton Parr Library, VCAM, Southbank campusThis is an essential session for new postgraduate students at the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts. Music students from the Faculty of Music are also welcome to attend. Learn how to get the most out of the Lenton Parr Library. Even if you have been a student at the Faculties of Music or Victorian College of the Arts previous to enrolling as a postgraduate student, this session is for you too! This session covers: Searching effectively for books, journals, music scores, sound recordings, audiovisual items etc using the UoM catalogue; brief introduction to SuperSearch for all electronic resources; access your borrower record for renewing books and storing searches; place requests for books on loan and available at other University of Melbourne libraries; accessing other university libraries in Melbourne and interstate; and Interlibrary Loans.

Graduate students - Upskills: EndNote Is it for You?

Introduction to Endnote X1 .
This introductory workshop (1.5 hours) provides opportunity for hands-on activity using Endnote X1. The workshop covers the main features of EndNote: creating a library, adding references, downloading references from the library catalogue, inserting references from your EndNote library into a word document, and formatting a bibliography in a research paper.

Top Up Endnote X1 .
This workshop (1.5 hours) provides opportunity for hands-on activity using Endnote X1 for WIN, with a focus on music. The workshop builds on the Introduction to Endnote X1 for Music Researchers for WIN/PC class offered on 30 April. More advanced features will be added to your skill base including downloading references from a database, customising references and preferences, importing references from electronic databases and catalogues using Import Filters and Connection Files, inserting URLS and images.
Note: Before applying for this course, you must have completed an Introduction to Endnote X1 session - for Win/PC.
