Collections and Services

Many of the library's resources and collections are now available online and can be found through the Library Catalogue and Subject Resources. Library staff will be glad to assist with enquiries about the catalogue, abstracts and indexes, reference tools, electronic journal access, online searches, interlibrary loans, and finding information for projects, theses and other research. In addition teaching staff may request classes on specific topics for any undergraduate or postgraduate courses.

Books

The main book collection is arranged by subject according to the Dewey Decimal classification system. It is identifiable as UniM Physics on the library catalogue The folio collection (UniM Physics f is the location given on the library catalogue) is shelved in a separate sequence in the Reading room. Loans are for 28 days or 7 days for recommended reading material.

Reference

The Reference Collection consists of encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, data tables, nuclear data sheets and the indexes and abstracts collection. Important titles are Physics Abstracts, Nuclear Data Sheets,High Energy Physics Index, Atomic Data and Nuclear Data Tables & Astronomy & Astrophysics Abstracts.

Reference Collection has a location of UniM Physics REF on the library catalogue. This material is not for loan.

Reserve


The Reserve Collection (UniM Physics Reserve) is located in the library office and contains high use books Lectures Notes and Exam Papers. Reserve Books can be borrowed by University of Melbourne staff and students for 2 hours during opening hours or for overnight loans after 2 pm.

 

Theses and 4th Year Reports


Theses are located in the Post Graduate Reading room and the Fourth year reports in the Library Office and are available for consultation in the library only by producing the membership card.

 

Journals


Print Journals are arranged alphabetically by title and are not for loan. They have a location of UniM Physics P on the library catalogue. The easiest way to check whether the Library holds a particular journal title, either in print or electronically is to search for the title in the catalogue.
