Copying Services and Permissions

Books or Archival Material

Self-copying of Rare Books is not allowed. All copying orders must be processed through the Cultural Collections Reading Room. Prepayment is required and requests must comply with current copyright regulations.

Photography and digital scanning can be arranged on request and restrictions may apply to the copying of unpublished material. For conservation reasons, copying requests of fragile items may be refused.

University of Melbourne theses may be copied either partially or as a whole. If you only want part of a thesis, use the general copying form above, which is still done by Rare Books. Copying of whole theses will now be processed and carried out by the University Digitisation Centre.

We accept requests from University, Government, Public or Special Libraries and private researchers within Australia and internationally for copies of whole theses. All requests for copies of material held at the University of Melbourne Library must comply with the Copyright Act of 1968.

Copying of whole theses usually takes around 5-6 weeks

Theses are only delivered electronically via cloudstor.
