The University of Melbourne Thesis Collection holds archival copies of all Masters by Research and PhD theses completed at the University.
Please note: Special Collections does not hold Honours theses: Honours theses are often held in departmental offices or libraries and may be available for reference there.
University of Melbourne hard-copy theses are not available for loan. Instead they can be read in the Cultural Collections Reading Room in the Baillieu Library. Requests for theses can be made online prior to visiting the reading room. To request material, please use our online request form. Increasingly, theses are freely available online: more information.

Access and Availability
University of Melbourne theses are not available for loan. Instead they can be read in the Cultural Collections Reading Room in the Baillieu Library. Requests for theses can be made online prior to visiting the reading room. To request material, please use our online request form.
Only theses written in the last ten years are held in the Baillieu Library. The remainder of the collection is held in off-site storage. Theses with the status 'BUNDOORA STORE' on the library catalogue at held off site. Four working days notice is required for retrieval of material held off-site.
Copying
Theses are available to be photocopied either partially or as a whole. Self copying is not available and all copying orders must be processed through the Reading Room. Please ask staff for details of copying charges and turnaround times.
External Thesis Requests
We accept requests from University, Government, Public or Special Libraries and private researchers within Australia and internationally for copies of whole theses. All requests for copies of material held at the University of Melbourne Library must comply with the Copyright Act of 1968.

Copying of whole theses usually takes around 6-8 weeks to complete, not including postage time. Payment can be made via cheque or money order (both made payable to the University of Melbourne), Visa or MasterCard. We will not issue an invoice; however, a receipt can be supplied upon request.
