The Melbourne Star Debate

In February 1935, the Melbourne Star organised a public debate in Melbourne Town Hall on the question ‘Should censorship be abolished?’ An audience of 3000 heard the censorship system lambasted as ‘absurd’ and ‘undemocratic’, and duly voted for its abolition. The Star published its report as a free pamphlet, a copy of which is shown here.
