Wilhelm Stekel’s Sadism and Masochism was restricted in 1950. The Censorship Board observed that it was ‘a penetrating study, the result of long and varied experience of sexual disorders, and would be of the utmost value to the medical profession. It is not, however, fitted for indiscriminate circulation.’
