Narumi, the famous Arimatsu dyeing shops

Ando, Hiroshige, Tokaido gojusan tsugi [The fifty-three stages of the Tokaido] Tokyo: Shogakkan, 1997.
Baill EA f 6218 H724

Narumi, the famous Arimatsu dyeing shops. As evening draws close, Hiroshige shows several women travellers passing the shops and peeking in as they hurry towards their lodgings for the night. Note the use of aizome cloth in the travellers' clothing, the shop curtains and in the luggage cover of the man to the far right.
