A Meta-Search Engine does not maintain a database or listing of web sites but instead sends your query to a range of different search engines and then compiles the results for you - including the details of which search engine found the site. These engines are best used with simple searches. As advanced searches are dealt with differently by each search engine, using boolean operators and other criteria with a Meta-Search engine will often return incomplete results.
