Connection File - connecting via EndNote
EndNote X and XI come with a Libraries Australia Connection File installed. EndNote 7 users will need to down the Libraries Australia Connection File from: http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/endnote/connections.html
Important: To use the Libraries Australia Connection File from within EndNote, or to save records directly from within Libraries Australia, a username and password is required. These can be requested from within SuperSearch. Locate Libraries Australia using the Find a Database search function, and locate the “Click here to retrieve Uni of Melb password” link. Username and password can also be requested via the
for information button (UM staff & students only)
- Open your EndNote Library
- Open Tools> Connect
- Select Find and select Find by Name. Type in libraries
- Select Libraries Australia. This will open the EndNote search box
- You are now connected to the Libraries Australia database
- Conduct your search
- Once you have performed your search and retrieved records, an interim window appears. This window lists retrieved records.
- Select Copy References To. This option allows you to select which EndNote library you wish to download your references.
- The references are then inserted alphabetically in your nominated Library
Direct Export - searching Libraries Australia via SuperSearch
- Log into SuperSearch and click on the Find Database tab
- Type in Libraries Australia and click on the Search in Database symbol (magnifying glass)
- Run your search and nominate the field you would like to search eg title / isbn
- View your results and mark the records for exporting to EndNote
- Click on the My Stuff tab to view all the records marked
- Check the box next to titles you wish to export
- A Summary pop up window will appear listing the titles you are about to export
- Click on Save
- Select Citation Manager from the Record Format drop down box
- You will be prompted to select your EndNote library
- The records will be saved to your nominated library.
- Check the records in case you?ll need to do some minor editing.
Import Filter - Saving and importing records from Libraries Australia website
- Log into SuperSearch and click on the Find Database tab
- Type in Libraries Australia and go to the Libraries Australia website
- To save records in Libraries Australia you need to be logged in (see note above re: passwords)
- Login with Libraries Australia username and password and run search
- To select records for download, check the boxes beside the records. Click on the Download button to download the checked records
- You will be asked to select a format. Select RIS (this is the correct format for EndNote) and click on the Go button.
- Save the file as a Text Document (*.txt) in an easy to access location
- Open your EndNote library. Click on File > Import to import the file of records
- Locate the downloaded file of references and select file for import
- For the Import Option, select Reference Manager (RIS)
- Select Import
- Records are now imported into your Library
- Check the references after import. Some editing of references will be required
