Database guide: University of Melbourne Library Catalogue
Note:
There are three methods for getting the bibliographic data from the University of Melbourne Library Catalogue into Endnote. The first option, using a Connection File, provides the best result - the data requires less editing than the other methods.
Connection File - connecting via EndNote
EndNote X1 & X come with a University of Melbourne Library Catalogue connection file installed.
- With your EndNote Library open
- Select Tools>Online Search>New Search (Endnote X users: Tools>Connect> New Search)
- Type melbourne into the Quick Search box, then press Enter
- Highlight U Melbourne and click Choose.
- This will open the Online Search Library Catalogue at University of Melbourne window. You are now connected to the University of Melbourne Library Catalogue
- Conduct your search using All Fields, Title or Author searches. Note: the Keywords field option does not work.
- Once you have performed your search and retrieved records, an interim window appears, labelled EndNote X1 [Library Catalogue at University of Melbourne].
- If you want all retrieved library records, select Copy All References to. This option allows you to select which EndNote library you wish to download your references. If you only want selected references, highlight these using the Ctrl key and mouse, then select Copy Selected to and nominate which EndNote library you wish to download into.
- The references are then inserted into your nominated Library.
- If you want to undertake another Online search of the Catalogue , use the Clear List and Return to Search buttons
Note: EndNote 7 users will need to download the University of Melbourne's Library Catalogue connection file. This is available at: http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/endnote/connections.html Make sure you close the EndNote program before downloading the connection file. Save the file into the Connections folder of the EndNote program.
