Find Full Text Setup and Use
To enable the EndNote Find Full Text feature to locate and download items requiring University of Melbourne authentication access, you must set up preferences and authenticate once per EndNote session. You must also enter in the University's Source It at Melbourne server address to enable the OpenURL link function to work.
You can also set up links to ISI Web of Knowledge through "Go to ISI" links within EndNote records downloaded from this search engine.
One Time Setup
- Open EndNote
- Go to EndNote menu > Preferences > Find Full Text
- At OpenURL Path : enter http://unimelb.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com:3410/sfxlcl41
- At Authenticate with : URL : enter https://ezp.lib.unimelb.edu.au/login?url=
- Go to EndNote menu > Preferences > URLs & Links
- At ISI Base URL enter http://gateway.isiknowledge.com.ezp.lib.unimelb.edu.au/gateway/Gateway.cgi
- Click Save
Using Find Full Text
- Open EndNote
- Select an item or items you want to find.
- Click the Find Full Text icon in the toolbar (a picture of a globe with a page in front of it)
- The first time in a session this is done a SuperSearch authentication screen will appear
- Enter your University of Melbourne email username and password. Click Login
- Following successful login, a Database Menu screen will appear.
- Click Continue in the surrounding EndNote frame.
- EndNote will attempt to locate and attach PDF copies of the items you have selected. Information about success of the Find Full Text attempt will appear in the Find Full Text bar on the left hand side of the EndNote library screen.
- Items found will be automatically attached to the EndNote reference. Open the file by selecting the reference and clicking on the Open Item toolbar icon (a yellow folder symbol) in the EndNote toolbar
- You should find that between 50-75% of recent academic journal articles can be downloaded automatically through this method depending on what information is available in the reference. Find Full Text is improved if DOI or ISSN details are available in the reference.

Using Source It at Melbourne links
- Open EndNote
- Select an item or items you want to find.
- Select References > URL > OpenURL link
- A web browser window will open to the Source It at Melbourne system
- Information from the reference will be displayed along with any appropriate services available to you.
- Click on GO to access the required Online Source or other service. Your University of Melbourne email Username and Password for authentication may be required.
- If an Online Source produces an error message or does not locate the appropriate item, remove the information in the Year, Volume, Issue and Pages boxes and click GO. This will link to the contents page for the Online Source where you may search or browse for the item required.
- Note that book references will require a single ISBN number to be present for a library catalogue and Bonus catalogue to display. EndNote book references will often have multiple ISBN numbers listed for paperback and hardback forms or for 10 digit and 13 digit ISBN's. Delete additional ISBN numbers to get the Source It at Melbourne function to work.
Using Go to ISI links
- This method requires you to have imported references from an ISI Web of Knowledge database such as Web of Science or Medline (ISI).
- Open EndNote
- Select an item that was imported to your library from ISI Web of Knowledge
- Click the Open Link toolbar icon (a globe with an arrow around it)
- A web browser window will open to the SuperSearch authentication page
- Enter your University of Melbourne email username and password. Click Login.
- An ISI Web of Knowledge session will start and the reference you selected will appear.
