Styles

Styles are files that are used to control the appearance of references in a bibliography. The name of the style often refers to the journal or publisher that has defined the bibliographic format. Styles are selected and aded to your style favourites.

Styles can be modified and new styles can be created using EndNote's style editor. If you decide to modify an existing style it is important to edit a copy of the style file as the new versions will overwrite existing files. e.g. APA_amended or APA2.

To browse and select Styles from within your EndNote library:

It is also possible to use a new or amended styles created by other users

APA style - 5th edition

In 2007, the American Psychological Association (APA) produced a new APA Style Guide to Electronic References. It is a revised and updated version of section 4.16 of the fifth edition of the Publication Manual. University of Melbourne staff and students can access the guide online (login for full-text) .

University of Queensland Library staff have created an amended version of the APA 5th style supplied with the EndNote software.

Download the amended UQ APA 5th style from: http://www.library.uq.edu.au/faqs/endnote/styles.html

Suitable for EndNote 8 and later versions

For electronic references it should be used in conjunction with the UQ Guide to electronic referencing in APA style.

For this style to work you must enter footnote information in the Label field of the Endnote reference template:
  • Enter author and date in the following manner: Wittkower 1961
  • If there is more than one author, enter the names in one line separated by a comma.
  • Do not use the Label field of the Endnote reference template for other comments.

Harvard Style

It is recommended that you do not use the Harvard output style supplied with the EndNote program. There are many interpretations of the Harvard Style, however the Harvard style supplied with EndNote will not generally suit departmental requirements at the University. e.g. Harvard in EndNote XI and X displays author names in capital letters, whilst in EndNote 7, the Harvard style does not display journal article title, or issue number. Additionally the supplied Harvard style is not configured for a wide range of reference types.

University of Queensland Library staff have created an amended version of the Harvard style.

Download the amended UQ Harvard style from: http://www.library.uq.edu.au/faqs/endnote/styles.html

UQ have produced a number of versions. Ensure that you download the appropriate one for your version of EndNote.
