There are a number of ways to identify relevant University of Melbourne theses:

All University of Melbourne theses are listed in the main library
catalogue and can be identified by the prefix T in the location entry.
- Search by Author and Title if you know this information.
- Search by Keywords if you are unsure of the author and title.
Remember to include the words Thesis and Melbourne in your search.
e.g. university AND melbourne AND thesis AND logic programming
Card catalogue
- Check the Card Catalogue for older theses produced between 1904 and 1991. This is located on the ground floor, Baillieu Library, near the public lifts.
- Theses listed in the card catalogue can be searched by Author and Title. There is also a separate section listing theses by Department and Date.
Library theses collections
University of Melbourne thesis collection
The University of Melbourne Thesis Collection holds archival copies of all Masters by Research, and Ph.D. theses completed at the University. The theses are not available for loan. Instead they can be read in the Cultural Collections Reading Room in the Baillieu Library. This collection is not browseable on open shelves, and individual theses will be retrieved from storage upon request. Only theses written in the last ten years are held in the Baillieu Library. The remainder of the collection is held in off-site storage and can also be retrieved upon request. Theses with the status UNIM AT CARM on the library catalogue at held off-site. Four working days notice is required for retrieval of material held off-site.
Requests for theses can be made online prior to visiting the reading room. To order material, it is best to use the online order form.
Theses are available to be photocopied either partially or as a whole. Self-copying is not available, and all copying orders must be processed through the Reading Room. Please ask staff for details of copying charges and turnaround times.
Digital theses on the University of Melbourne ePrints repository (UMER)
UMER
Browse a growing collection of University of Melbourne full-text digital
theses. On completion of the examination, some Candidates have deposited
an electronic version of their completed thesis on the University of
Melbourne ePrints Repository (UMER). This is in addition to submitting the
thesis in permanent binding.
Browse by subject (faculty/department) and look for entries annotated with 'PhD thesis' or search by broad topic and retrieve the full text. If you choose the Advanced Search option, and select thesis as the publication type, there are currently over 490 theses to view. If you then choose the option refine search, you can put in a keyword to limit to topics in your area of interest.
Higher degree theses deposited in UMER are also indexed by the Australasian Digital Theses Program, Google Scholar and Google.

Theses not held by the University of Melbourne can also be requested by
University staff and postgraduate students through the Library's
interlibrary loan service. Interlibrary loan services are also provide to
other universities and institutions.
