Borrowing

When

During business hours of the library. Note that borrowing may cease ¼ hour or 1 hour before closing time depending on the library, the time of the week, or the time of the year.

Who can

This service is available to all registered users who have a clear record (i.e. no overdues or fines owing). Overdue items need to be returned through the chutes and checked off the record before the person can borrow again. There is no possibility of expediting the check-in of overdue material; all items are discharged in order of return.

See returning items

The person also needs to be within the limit of the number of items that can be borrowed concurrently.

See borrowing table

How

Present the items and user card to the loans desk. CAVAL users need to have both their student ID, and their current (registered) CAVAL card.

See CAVAL borrowers

Items will then be recorded on your patron record and be given a due date stamp and desensitised (to avoid setting off the alarm at the exit door).

Exceptions

Not all registered users can borrow all available material. Restrictions do apply to certain categories of users.

See borrowing table

Note that library catalogues do not uniformly provide information regarding the loan period of items on the shelves. Most items are 28 day loans, exceptions such as 7 day loans will have an appropriate stamp at the barcode end of the item.

Note

First time CAVAL borrowers need to be registered at the library, this process may take several minutes and can not be done half hour prior to closing of the loans desk.

See opening hours

Items issued for 28 days may be recalled (except by CAVAL borrowers). A recall notice will be sent to the borrower requesting return of item by a new due date.

Penalties will be incurred if item is not returned.
