Laptop fines for late returns at closing time
If you do not return laptops 45 minutes before closing time, you will incur a fine of $10. If you fail to return a laptop you can be charged for the replacement cost.Viewing the amount of fines you owe correctly in your library account
When viewing fines in your library account the amount indicated for unpaid fines and bills does not include fines accrued for books you currently have overdue it only includes the total fines for overdue books that you already returned. To work out the total owed so far for current overdue items as well as returned overude items simply add together the figures listed next to each item further down the screen.Paying your fines
- You must keep your fines under $25 to avoid library suspensions and student administration restrictions.
- Transactions must be $25 or more.
- Each fine is itemised and must be paid in full.
Tip: As long as the transaction amount is $25 or more, you can select just those fines that will reduce your balance to under $25. Eg. If you have a total of 3 $15 fines, you can select to pay just 2 of these. This will reduce your balance to under $25, while still meeting the minimum transaction requirements.
Pay in the library
Use your UNICARD or student card. Baillieu, Law and ERC Libraries have credit and EFTPOS facilities (we do not accept American Express or Diners Club). Only regional campus libraries accept cash payments.
Pay online
Log into your account and pay your fines using your credit card (we do not accept American Express or Diners Club).
Suspensions
Your borrowing rights will be suspended if you have:- An overdue short loan (2-3 hours, overnight or 2 and 7 day loans)
- A 28 or 90 day loan that is overdue by more than 7 days
- A fine of $25.00 or more
- Fees owed to the University
CAVAL borrowers will be suspended at their home library until overdue items are returned and fines paid.
To avoid suspensions you need to keep the total amount of your fines below $25 for the duration of your study, academic or professional career at the University.
Results, re-enrolment and graduation
We record long overdue items and unpaid fines with student administration. You may not be given your exam results or be able to re-enrol or graduate until you return the items and pay the fines.
