Who can

This service is available to all registered users.

Requirements

The item must not be overdue, or be on hold for another patron. The person renewing must have a clear record (i.e. no fines or penalties outstanding, or other overdue material).

Only 28 day loan and 7 day loan books are renewable (except for 7 day loans from the Biomedical and Music Libraries), for all other items check with the library or collection concerned.

Items with borrowing periods of less than 7 days are NOT renewable, ie. 2 Hour and Overnight loans.

When

For 28 day books, renewals will be accepted one week before due date, for all other items check with the library or collection concerned.

How often

28 day books can be renewed four times, before they need to be returned to the library, for all other items check with the library or collection concerned.

Where

OPACS
Using public access catalogues patron records can be viewed, and items can be renewed. If an item is on hold for another patron, or is non-renewable, or is too soon to renew, then an appropriate message will display.
Telephone
Loans Desk during opening hours.
Information required: barcode of user card, items to be renewed.
See library branch collections for telephone numbers. 
Internet
Using Telnet or the webopac the library catalogues can be accessed, surname, and barcode of user card is required to access the patron record. Follow the menu choices and renew as required. Anomalies on the record, or out-dated information should be brought to the attention of loans staff. 
Loans Desk
There is no need to bring items to the Loans Desk, simply indicate to loans staff the items to be renewed on the screen.

NOTE

If a Hold and Recall is placed on the renewed item then a recall notice will be issued with the new due date (usually one week from the date the Hold was placed). The item needs to be returned by the new date, otherwise borrowing rights are suspended, and a penalty may be incurred .
