Student borrowing
Students enrolled at the University of Melbourne are automatically entitled to borrow at the library. Present your University of Melbourne student card and the items to be borrowed to the Loans Counter.
There is a limit to how many items can be borrowed concurrently:
| Undergraduate | 30 |
| Postgraduate | 30 |
| Higher Degree | 60 |
There are fines and penalties for overdue books.
Borrowing at other Universities
The CAVAL Reciprocal Borrowing Program allow Staff and Students to borrow at all Victorian universities and most TAFE institutions. Consult the CAVAL home site for a list of participating institutions. Holdings for these institutions can be searched using COOL-CAT, a database accessible via the on-line library catalogue. On request a CAVAL card will be issued at the loans desk which will remain valid for the current year, and can be re-authorised in the following year. This card must be presented with the student card at the library one wishes to borrow from to enable registration.
Note: penalties incurred at another institution will result in suspension of borrowing rights at the University of Melbourne Library.
Note: Community Access Program, MUFAS and VCA Students are not included in the CAVAL Program.
Borrowing at non-Victorian Universities
The National Borrowing Scheme allows Students to borrow at universities outside Victoria. Consult the National Borrowing Scheme Site for a list of participating institutions. Students need to present a photo ID as well as proof of current enrolment. This could be your enrolment advice form or other proof from your university.
