Managing your bibliography

In the interests of the scholarly sharing of ideas and information, and to acknowledge the work of authors, it is standard practice to compile a full bibliography of sources consulted during the research process.

You should maintain complete records of all the sources to which you refer.
You need to note complete author, title and publication details (and in the case of WWW resources, URL and date accessed).

Reference management software can help you manage and document your sources, accurately and easily. Popular reference management packages include:

  • EndNote for Mac and PC users.
  • BibTeX for UNIX users.

BibTeX is part of the LaTeX package run on UNIX machines and is commonly used by researchers in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences and Physics.
