About Indexes

Indexes are the key to the journal literature on any subject.
Search by keywords to locate brief records describing individual journal articles (and other publications such as conference papers and book reviews).

Some indexes...

  • include citations only, others also have abstracts and some include full-text.
  • are multidisciplinary, e.g.
    • Expanded Academic ASAP,
    • Web of Science.
  • cover a group of subjects e.g.
    • Medline,
    • IBSS : International Bibliography of the Social Sciences,
    • APAIS.
  • have a specific subject focus e.g.
    • AustLIT,
    • EconLit,
    • Music Index Online.
  • are only available in print e.g.
    • Film Literature Index,
    • International Development Abstracts.
  • are only available in electronic form e.g.
    • Academic Search Premier,
    • Expanded Academic ASAP,
    • CINCH.
  • are held in both formats often with different date coverage e.g.
    • Engineering Index/Compendex,
    • MLA International Bibliography.
