Records are collected to be used - the priority of Archives is making its collections available for research.
Archives collections include the history of

  • the University,
  • architecture,
  • trade unionism,
  • women's movement,
  • mining.

To find items in the Archives collection, search the UMA Database, NOT the library catalogue.

Special Collections

NOT FOR LOAN - (identified by "SpC" in the call number)
200,000 volumes of books, journals and pamphlets include significant literary archives and the Thesis collection.

Australiana collection includes pre-1900 materials published in Australia or on Australian subjects or by an Australian author.

Rare Books collection includes mainly pre-1880 non-Australian materials, much of it based on private libraries.

NOT FOR LOAN (identified by a "GD" in the call number)
Much current material is available on the internet - this collection is rich in historic material. Debates; Royal Commissions; and other historic parliamentary papers are available from State and Federal Governments, the UK and USA.
